Jan Lowe is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning artist and instructor.  She is based in Ventnor, Victoria, Australia and works in a variety of media including scratchboard, ink, pastels, watercolor, acrylic and oil, to name a few. Her subject matter is just as varied and includes animals, landscapes, cityscapes, water and seascapes, people and still life.  Her motto is "My Art, My Way". Her inspiration comes from her father and his connection to nature and Jan's mission as an artist is to tell stories through her paintings.

Animals are one of Jan's favorite subjects. Scroll to the bottom of the page to wee 8 of her scratchboard and ink artworks, including one of her cherished subjects - Grumpy.  Grumpy is a bunny rabbit and Jan views watching her grow into this amazing little creature as a wonderful experience. She always sketches Grumpy her from life onto the Scratchboard and according to Jan, "it makes it more "nature', not perfect, but an artwork.  Her expressions change all of the time, so it is essential to grab one that catches her mood."

Jan Lowe Artist Biography

Jan is a Scratchboard Artist and has worked in this medium for 40 years. She and has been successful in various international competitions either as best painting, art excellence awards for her scratchboard works in Europe, Canada, USA, and Australia as well as being invited to publish. Dedicating to her passion, she tutors in scratchboard with workshops, and classes. She exhibits internationally and in Australia.

Jan Lowe Artist Statement

I am inspired by nature with a connection to my subject. My inspiration for working with Scratchboard is to bring to the viewer, a snapshot of the animals and their unique personality, to feel the passion for the subject. The pieces offered within are works of animals that I have spent time with and studied.
