Joan Marie Giampa Artist Statement
Painting is lifelong journey which I began at the early age of four. I remember standing in front of my kindergarten easel with paintbrush in hand and telling myself that I would be a painter when I grew up.
My earlier influences were Thomas Cole and Pierre Fragonard. As a teen I would often visit The Smithsonian Institute and spend hours looking at Coles Voyage of life. I love the metaphor and story behind the paintings.
My work currently is focused on the style of Alla Prima painting where I can focus on a more direct approach to the process. My palette continues to mimic Fragonards painting of "The Swing".
