Joe Maibach Artist Statement

In my painting, “Venetian Canal”, I aim to capture the essence of Venice and a leisurely gondola ride through its mesmerizing canals. Using layers of acrylic paint, I invite viewers to immerse themselves in the romantic atmosphere that Venice is renowned for. The painting portrays a gondola gliding gracefully through the labyrinth of waterways, guided by a skillful gondolier dressed in traditional attire. Through the manipulation of light and shadow, I seek to recreate the enchanting reflections cast upon the water’s surface, and to replicate the refraction of sunlight caused by a rowing oar’s stroke.
