Josephine Florens is a Ukraine born, award-winning, artist based in Germany.
Her work explores the quiet power of beauty as an act of emotional resistance. As a woman, a mother, and an artist who relocated during the war in Ukraine, she paints to preserve tenderness in a world that often feels fractured. Through transparent oil layers and a modern–vintage sensibility, she focuses on light—its ability to heal memory, soften loss, and reconnect us with what remains human.
Each of Josephine’s paintings is a space of stillness, where everyday moments gain dignity and emotional depth. She is drawn to subjects that carry intimacy: landscapes of belonging, symbolic objects, and figures suspended between fragility and strength. Her goal is not to document reality but to restore its sincerity, allowing viewers to encounter a sense of calm, clarity, and hope.
Josephine won Best in Show/Overall Top Winner in Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery’s 15th Annual “All Women” Art Exhibition in January 2026.
Josephine Florens is a professional visual artist currently living and working in Germany after relocating due to the war in Ukraine. Originally trained in law, she holds Master’s degrees in Civil and International Law; however, her lifelong commitment to visual art ultimately led her to pursue painting as her primary vocation.
In 2017, Florens began formal artistic studies at the Art-Ra School of Fine Arts, where she developed a distinctive artistic voice grounded in technical rigor, emotional depth, and psychological sensitivity. Working primarily in oil, with occasional use of acrylic, she engages a wide range of genres, including portraiture, landscape, religious imagery, still life, animals, and marine painting.
Florens describes her artistic approach as modern vintage — a synthesis of classical pictorial traditions and a refined contemporary sensibility. Her works are characterized by muted, time-worn palettes, symbolic undertones, and a quiet intensity that favors contemplation over spectacle.
The painting in that won Best in Show/Overall Top Winner in Light Space & Time’s “All Women” Exhibition grew out of a long, quiet observation of love.
The woman portrayed is Lyudmila Atanasova. She is known as a dog breeder, but that word is far too small for what she truly is. She is a mother—to her dogs, to their puppies, and to every life she has carefully raised and then learned to let go.
Years ago, I bought a puppy from her—Peter. When the time came to leave, she cried as we gently placed him into the car with our children. It was not a moment of loss, but of love strong enough to release. That moment stayed with me.
Over the years, I saw how deeply she loves her dogs: how attentively she cares for each one, how she remembers every puppy, how none of them ever truly leaves her. And I saw how, in return, the dogs love her—with trust, calm, and complete openness.
This painting is not about breeding, ownership, or roles. It is about a bond built on tenderness, responsibility, and mutual presence. The dog in her arms is not a symbol, but a living being—resting, safe, understood.
I work slowly in oil, allowing time for closeness and truth. I focus on touch, posture, and silence—the places where love exists without explanation.
This work is my tribute to sincere kindness and to the pure, luminous souls I was fortunate to know: both the woman and the dog.
