Marcella Peralta Simon is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning artist and writer based in Kissimmee, Florida, USA. After more than 40 years of a varied career in education, diplomacy and design, Marcella picked up a brush again, in retirement, thanks to two of her art teachers.
Marcella’s main choice of media is acrylic on canvas but she recently started working in watercolor again. Her favorite subjects are nature, still life and abstraction.
In addition to painting, Marcella writes poetry, short stories and is currently working her first full-length novel. Both her artwork and writing have been published in numerous magazines.
Marcella Peralta Simon is a retired Latinx grandmother, splitting her time between Cambridge, UK and Kissimmee, Florida. She has been a diplomat, university professor, and instructional designer. She writes poetry and short fiction. Her artwork has been featured in Smoky Blue Literary and Arts Magazine, Beyond Words Literary Magazine, Tofu Ink Arts Press, Persimmon Tree, and The Acentos Review. She spends her time exploring fens and swamps, looking for nests and other beginnings.
I was an avid doodler and went to weekend art school as a teen but then did not pick up a brush for more than 40 years until I retired in 2018. I use color, movement, landscapes, and mythology to convey the sorrow and joy of daily life. I also throw in a bit of my Latin heritage and political activism. Two of my pieces Salsa and Lakehouse were featured as part of Fusion Art’s 7th Annual Colorful Abstractions Art Exhibition in November 2021.
