Matt Donner is an award winning figurative, portrait, and animal sculptor based in Cedar Park, Texas, USA. He creates representational art in ceramics and limited-edition bronzes. Matt is passionate about conveying his subjects’ feelings, movements, and souls.
Matt graduated from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Sculpting. He is currently the president of the Texas Society of Sculptors.
Matt won Best in Show in Fusion Art’s 8th Annual Animal Kingdom Art Exhibition in December 2023.
Matt Donner’s artwork has been exhibited in numerous juried shows and is represented by several fine art galleries. Over the years, he has consistently honed his skills, relying on life studies, artist’s influence, and education to create a style which communicates movement, gestures, and beauty influenced by all living beings. Matt’s intention is to express a deeper love and understanding of his subjects, impressionistic of one’s own emotions and personal journeys.
I have always been captivated and influenced by the natural world. The White Rhino, receiving Best in Show, was sculpted from water-based clay, produced in bronze, completed with an applied silver and black contemporary patina. For research, I visited a local private game reserve, observing and photographing my subject. I thoughtfully sculpted his powerful anatomy and suggestive movement prior to charging, dynamically gazing, head down, right front leg lifted, turning into the antagonist. As with all my sculptures, I scrupulously wanted to represent the subject’s anatomy. Artistically, I worked the clay
