Melanie Whaley is an internationally acclaimed award-winning artist based in Sarasota, Florida, USA.

Melanie paints because it is her passion. She hopes her work elicits the viewer's emotions and encourages them to ponder, but her ultimate goal is to create beautiful art.

According to Melanie, artwork must be about deeper concerns. Space, movement, light, harmony, and drama are intriguing issues. She also believes accuracy is essential because it is part of the truth, but it is not the point of painting.

Melanie has won numerous awards including Best in Show in Fusion Art’s 5th Annual Still Life Art Exhibition in April 2024.

Melanie Whaley Artist Statement

At the core of my artistic journey lies a fascination with the interplay of light and shadow. This dynamic relationship holds a special allure for me, a beauty that I am constantly driven to capture and share with others. In my work, I strive to transform ordinary objects into extraordinary ones, their allure heightened as the shadow and light engage in a captivating dance, casting an enigmatic glow.

My choice of still-life objects is influenced by my time in Asia, particularly Singapore. I often incorporate objects collected from that period into my work, such as the Red Buddha. I also find inspiration in the unexpected, like the skulls I discovered while walking my Briard or little curios that catch my eye for their beauty when illuminated by light.
