Sandra Pipken is an award-winning, self-taught photographer based in Arizona, USA.

After leaving home at the age of seventeen, Sandra floundered, searching for something, but not knowing what, until finally finding photography. While recovering from a year-long illness, she picked up a camera and began taking photographs.

Eventually, over time she learned that photography was more than just clicking the shutter button. It became the creative and productive vocation she had been searching for and she has never looked back.

Sandra won Best in Show in Fusion Art’s 7th Annual Skies Art Exhibition in July 2023.

Sandra Pipken Artist Biography

Sandra Pipken was born on a self-sufficient farm in a German farming community in Indiana—no bathroom, running water, or electricity. Moved to and raised in Texas. Worked her way through school as a legal secretary/paralegal, earned a few degrees, one from an Ivy league school, another from a private, catholic university, + more. Learned six languages. In between, there were ups and downs. After, all of that, came photography—self-taught.

Sandra Pipken Artist Statement

My work is interspersed with the visible forms of the land that I have seen to be majestic, creating deep moments of inspiring awe. Traveling on the road, not knowing where you’re going, on the way to the next boundless land form is only part of the experience. Since you don't see many people driving from one place to the other, the feeling of solitariness makes you feel free and alone but apart with each place. It is a never-ending experience, as Jack Kerouac said, "There was nowhere to go but everywhere, so just keep on rolling under the stars.” This is my inspiration and the beginning of my process.
